One-room locals pub in the Chinatown area of Newcastle city centre.
The interior is larger than you might think from the outside. It’s basic with lots of wood and many mirrors on the walls. The bar is over to the right with seating areas to the left and beyond the bar.
The Newcastle Arms has a terrific selection of real ales – mainly focussing on locally brewed beers. The Big Lamp Newcastle Gold and 3 Kings Ring of Fire both tasted superb.
Not sure if food is available, but I was just drinking.
There is a friendly atmosphere in this pub – despite being a stranger I was quickly in conversation with others at the bar. On the wall is a (believed) hand drawn poster of all the pubs featuring in a proposed Tyneside pub crawl. Not sure how old the poster is but I recognise some of the names.
The Newcastle Arms is another Newcastle pub I’d definitely want to go back to. It’s be good to try one of the nearby Chinese restaurants too – I’d already eaten on my last visit and they were about to close too.
Quite close to the Bodega Bar – another good city-centre pub.
