The New Bridge can be found slightly outside the eastern end of the city centre – close to New Bridge Street and Manors metro station. My first Newcastle pub.
It’s definitely a locals pub, with one long bar to the right as you enter from the street. There are some interesting seating area dividers towards the front of the pub – although the rest of the pub is quite open. There are TVs for sport etc.
The pub is part of the Sir John Fitzgerald real ale pub chain – who seem to operate quality pubs all over Newcastle. The are 4 hand pumps on the bar selling mainly local real ales and real cider. The New Bridge operates a loyalty card scheme – buy 8 pints of real ale and get the next one free. I don’t believe this scheme extends to the other pubs in the chain – so I wasn’t able to take advantage of this during my brief visit to the city.
Food is available lunchtimes only – so I didn’t eat as I visited in the evening.
There is a quiz every Thursday night. The book shelves contain a good selection of titles, and some local CAMRA related material. There is a beautiful tiled green fireplace at the front of the pub.
Practically next door to the King Manor.
