Lady Grey’s
Address: 20 Shakespeare Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6AQ
Telephone: 0191 232 3606
Large one roomed bar behind the Theatre Royal and close to Bacchus. Also close to Monument Metro station.
My memories of Lady Greys are slightly fuzzy as I’d experienced closing time at 2 other city centre pubs before arriving here sometime after midnight – recommend by bar staff in Bacchus. But what a find – an excellent real ale pub that’s open until 2:00 am pretty much every morning.
There are 6 hand pumps on the bar and I believe one may be cider. I tried two of the ones on offer (see photo) and they both tasted great. There are also some keg craft beers too.
Food is available but I didn’t eat here.
After midnight the emphasis is going to be on the younger customers, but I found Lady Greys to be a very friendly pub and I quickly fell into conversation with other customers.
A definite one to return to.

I don’t know if you’re aware that this used to be a pub called The Adelphi, which I suspect you wouldn’t have liked at all. If you want to know what it was like, visit http://www.theburglarsdog.co.uk and check their review. NOTE: That website hasn’t been updated for several years, and the language used is industrial to say the least. Their reviews were usually very funny, though.
Thanks for the comment Dave. Those are certainly ‘colourful’ reviews. Cheers.
