Crown Posada
Address: 31 Side, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear NE1 3JE
Telephone: 0191 232 1269
Small narrow bar near the top of the steep street simply called Side which leads down to the quayside. It’s close to Central Station and Monument Metro stations.
The Crown Posada is very much in the traditional style, with lots of wood and mirrors, and moulded ceilings. The pub is mainly open – albeit very long and narrow, but there are some more secluded seating compartments at the front of the pub. It has a relaxed atmosphere – helped by the friendly and efficient staff. Part of the Sir John Fitzgerald real ale pub chain.
There is a varied selection of real ales – many local. The Hadrian & Border Tyneside Blonde and Hill Island Neptune’s Gold both tasted superb.
Food consists of just sandwiches. There is a good Pizza Express close by.
An excellent city centre pub on the way down to the quayside – which reminds me of the Cottage pub in the centre of Cardiff.
