Tyne Bar
Address: 1 Maling Street, Ouseburn, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 1LP
Telephone: 0191 265 2550
Friendly, large pub right by the lock where the Ouseburn joins the Tyne.
Initially the gloomy lighting of the main room is bit offputting – especially when you’re trying to read the paper. But you get used to it and the atmosphere is friendly.
There is a real mix of customers – some students through to those of more mature years.
The Tyne Bar is (I believe) the brewery tap for the Wylam Brewery. They had 5 Wylam beers on the bar (directly opposite as you enter) and the Wylam Gold Tankard I had tasted excellent.
Food is available, but not in the evenings.
Live music events happen occasionally, and the free juke box is apparently quite famous.
The pub can be nicely combined with a visit to the nearby Free Trade Inn which is just up the hill overlooking the River Tyne.
