Large ‘road-pub’ style pub and restaurant on the A320 Woking to Guildford road roundabout in Mayford village. The pub is about 2 miles south of Woking town centre.
The long right to left bar faces you as you come into the pub. There are seating areas in front of and to the right of the bar. There is an extensive restaurant area to the left. The decor has an older 70s feel to it but the Bird in Hand seems to be a lively community pub.
The real ale selection is small with just two hand pumps. The choice on my last visit was Courage Best and Sharp’s Doom Bar. Although some might be disappointed with this selection, the Doom Bar I tried did taste well-kept. There was some evidence of more adventurous guest beer pump-clips behind the bar.
The restaurant at the Bird in Hand was once a separate entity to the pub, but now they obviously run as one unit. The menu contains typical pub selections and you can choose from bar snacks or more set piece meals. There is a carvery operational on Sunday lunchtime. The restaurant seems popular but I’ve not eaten here for many years.
Outside there is a beer garden to the side of the pub which gets plenty of sun on good days.
As far as I can tell there is no wi-fi available. Sky TV is shown on the screen at the end of the front bar.
Bed and Breakfast is also available but I can’t comment on that.
