Spacious pub in a backstreet close to the main centre of Guildford.
From the outside the Albany looks perfectly in keeping with the smart late Victorian terrace houses that surround it. But inside inside any traditional touches have given way to a stylish modern refurb – but in attractive welcoming way.
In front of and to the left of the bar the pub is more geared for drinkers, but the larger seating area to the right is definitely laid out for diners.
There are three hand pumps on the bar at the Albany with mainstream choices – Wells Bombardier, Wadworth 6X and Deuchars IPA on my last visit. I was on coke but I’m told the beer tasted good.
Food is available at lunchtimes and evenings. I’ve not eaten here but the food does look very good. Main meals and lighter options are available and the prices seem reasonable for the area.
The Albany has a small beer garden up the steps behind the pub. It’s a real sun trap but there are some trees for shade.
The overall feel is lively and friendly. I definitely want to go again to try the beer and the food.
