Old Kings Head
Address: King's Head Yard, 45-49 Borough High Street, London SE1 1NA
Telephone: 020 7407 1550
Spartan one room pub in an alley off Borough High Street, close to Borough Market.
Easily overlooked from the main road, the Kings head is often busy. At the front there are some impressive stained glass windows, one of which opens wide to let in the fresh air on warm days. The walls are adorned by William Morris style wallpaper along with some old photos and prints of London.
There are six hand pumps on the bar, and the pint of St Austell Proper Job I had on my last visit tasted well kept. If I’d seen the Harveys Best sooner I might have gone for that instead – maybe next time.
Food is served all day but I’ve not eaten here. The menu has a good selection of food from sandwiches up to full meals.
There is a TV for sports.
The Old Kings Head has no frills, is not modern and is just an old fashioned boozer – a dying breed in some parts of London.
