The Horseshoe Inn is an older style London boozer tucked away in the backstreets near London Bridge stations and Guy’s Hospital. It can be difficult to find.
There are some attractive mouldings above eye level on the outside of the pub – easy to miss in the dark. The older part of the interior is all one area but there is a newer extension room at the back that can be hired for functions and parties etc. This is where the disabled toilet is situated.
On sunny days the Horseshoe is a light and airy pub because of the large windows, and the traditional wooden features area set off nicely by the sun. For the warmer days there is a small garden area at the back. The view is not great but you are outside.
Three real ales are usually available. London Pride seems to be a constant but the other two change.
Food is served at lunchtimes and in the evenings. There is a standard menu and a specials board, but a whole new world opens up if you search out the Mongolian food menu. I recommend ordering off this menu as the reasonably priced dishes are delicious and served in good portions. Some are spicy.
There are TVs showing sports and there is a dartboard in one corner.
This pub was used as The Railway Arms or “Heaven” in the last episode of the 3rd series of ‘Ashes to Ashes’ – where Ray, Chris, Shaz and ultimately Alex go when they accept their fate. See this page for a picture of the Railway Arms in Ashes to Ashes. Thanks to Geoff for that information.
