The Harelequin, Angel
Small and cosy, the Harlequin nestles in a back street just behind Saddlers Wells theatre. This means that it can suddenly get extremely popular during intervals and after shows.
Unlike the nearby Shakespeare’s Head, the Harlequin feels a lot more up-to-date depite the obviously older wood panneling and furniture. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed and the guys behind the bar make you feel at home.
Two real ales are available. I think Timothy Taylor Landlord is a the regular but the other one seems to vary. There’s also a real cider available too.
Very light lunches are available later in the week – including a cheese board, but there are no evening meals.
At the back of the pub there’s a piano and there’s also a good selection of board games for customers’ use, but no dartboard. There’s also a door out to a small beer garden.
