The Magpie, Liverpool Street
This Nicholson’s pub is situated in a side street close to Liverpool Street station. It’s location means it almost never sees direct sunlight, but it’s a popular pub with office workers nevertheless. During warmer months there are likely to be crowds of drinkers outside in the street.
The beer selection is standard Nicholson’s but disappointingly the quality of all the real ales was poor on my last visit.
Food is available from the standard Nicholson’s menu, but I’ve not eaten at the Magpie.
Given its location and regular clientelle, the Magpie is unlikely to be open at weekends.

With regard to the quality of the ales on offer; I use this pub several times a year to meet friends or family members because of its proximity to LSS, and have never found the beer quality to be less than excellent. On the few occasions I’ve been offered a cloudy or vinigerous pint, it has been replaced cheerfully. And although the place can get pretty crowded with City workers, service is usually quick and fair!
Thanks for your comments Steve. When I’m next in the Liverpool Street Station area I may pop in and give it another try.
I occasionally go down to the Magpie and find the selection of beers which changes weekly to be very good. I also enjoy the food although I have special requirements so have missed the whitebait that is no longer on the menu.
