Used to be one of my favourite pubs in Clerkenwell, but my impression has sadly changed after my last visit.
The real ale selection has been reduced down to three, and I tried two of the beers and they tasted awful. A conversation about the beers with the person who looks after the cellar began with him saying “I don’t really drink real ale”. Given the poor quality of the beer I’d say that was relevant.
The decor is bright and spartan and the pub has recently had a refit. The furniture is old – probably from a school or similar establishment. A stone floor in the area at the rear completes the picture.
The food used to be great and it may still be, although the bacon in the sandwich I had was extremely salty.
I hope the situation with the beers can be turned around or this pub will no longer be on my list to visit when in the area.
