Cavernous modern pub in the basement of an office block just off Victoria Street near St James’s Park tube station.
At street level the Abbey is just a doorway and a porch but it’s all spread out before you once you get halfway down the stairs. The pub is popular and can be a noisy place with little or no sound deadening on the bare walls.
This is a Marston’s pub but the Abbey doesn’t really advertise that fact. The beer choice reflects that but note that Pedigree is not always available here. Some guest beers appear as well.
The real ales are served through tight sparklers by default which does not always suit some brands – eg the Brakspear Bitter on my last but one visit. See St James’s Park Crawl – The Others.
I believe food is available but I’ve never eaten here.
The Abbey is not a bad pub but is suffers from being very close to the excellent Speaker just down the road – much more my kind of pub.
