The George in Strand, London
Traditional old pub on the Aldwych roundabout just south east of Covent Garden, and opposite the Royal Courts of Justice.
In fact its position opposite the law courts means that it must be one of the pubs to feature most in the news broadcasts when there is some big legal case going on.
I didn’t really enjoy my visits to the George until quite recently, as I always found the beer a bit lacking in quality. However, I have to say that the situation has improved and the quality and selection have all improved.
The building itself looks extremely old and is a definite tourist destination. It’s location means that a bit of trade comes from the law courts I guess.
Despite its improved status it would be rude for the George to hog all the limelight in this area, and so you may wish to combine with the nearby Seven Stars off Chancery Lane, the Edgar Wallace around the corner, or the also newly resurrected Wellington nearby on the Strand.
