Porterhouse
Address: 21-22 Maiden Lane, Covent Garden, London WC2 E7NA

Large multi-level drinking palace in the back streets of Covent Garden. This popular pub is always busy. Be careful if you’re meeting people here – it’s very easy to lose people in all the different areas.
As the name implies the beer selection features a good choice of darker beers. My favourite is the Oyster Stout – allegedly made with real oysters.
I’m not sure that the porters and stouts are strictly real ales but they are tasty. For real ale purists there are a couple of hand pumps too – even a Windsor and Eton beer on my last visit. The Porterhouse even has a summer seasonal called Hophead.
Food is available but it’s some time since I’ve eaten here. There is live music occasionally. There are TVs everywhere now and the non-stop Sky Sports is a bit incongruous with the semi-traditional feel.
Be aware that the Porterhouse is not cheap, but it’s definitely worth a trip if you’re in the Covent Garden area.
