The Hinton Arms is situated on the A272 Winchester to Petersfield road just east of Cheriton. The pub gets its name presumably from Hinton Ampner House just up the road.
It’s obvious the original part of the Hinton Arms (where the bar is) has been extended a couple of times to increase the size of the seating area. Behind the right hand side of the bar is a small patio garden which leads out onto a massive grassed pub garden with many tables. The garden makes this a great place to come with children – in fact your kids can quite easily get lost in the trees down one side.
Real ales are available – the Hinton Arms appears to carry its own range of beers. But it doesn’t take much digging to find out that are all rebadged Bowman’s beers. Since I love Bowman’s range (especially Swift One) I’m not going to complain too much about that. I was able to try a couple of the beers as my wife graciously offered to drive home. 😎
We had some food at the Hinton Arms as well, which was reasonably priced and very good. If you’re sitting in the garden and ordering food please listen carefully for when your order is called.
It’s one of those pubs you wish was your local.
