Sussex Ox pub, Milton Street
The Sussex Ox can be a bit tricky to find. It’s located in the tiny village of Milton Street – between Alfriston and Wilmington, and close to the A27 between Lewes and Polegate.
The small bar area at the front of the pub gives way to a small seating area known as the Lower Bar and a larger seating area/dining room out the back towards the large garden. Just behind the dining area there is some outside decking with steps down into the garden. Children are allowed in the dining room and decking areas if you’re eating.
The Sussex Ox carries a good selection of real ales and there are usually 2 to 3 beers on at any one time. I’ve seen Harveys Best here and a Dark Star beer. The beers taste excellent – obviously well kept. There is a large wine list too.
I’ve eaten here once and the food was very good and fairly reasonably priced. Childrens portions of some dished are available.
The Sussex Ox has a good friendly locals feel to it and is certainly worth tracking down.
The Giants Rest at nearby Wilmington always used to be worth a visit but I haven’t been there for many years.
