The John Harvey Tavern, Lewes

The John Harvey Tavern, Lewes

The John Harvey Tavern is located in a small lane just south of Cliffe High Street next to the River Ouse. It’s very close to the Harveys Brewery which is just across Cliffe High Street and it is seen as the brewery tap.

The pub building is quite old and the rooms sprawl inside. The main bar area is the largest room and features real fires – welcome on a cold evening. The bar itself occupies one whole side of this room. Only a few hand pumps feature on this bar as most of the beer casks are racked up on a shelf behind the bar. There is usually a good selection from the Harvey’s range here including the seasonals.

Food is available lunchtimes and evenings but I haven’t eaten here. There is a separate restaurant room.

Live music is a big feature of the John Harvey Tavern with folk every Tuesday and jazz every Wednesday. There are often other bands featured at weekends and on special occasions. See the What’s On page of their website.

For sunny days there is some seating outside.

This pub also featured in my posts on a pub crawl around Lewes – see Evening Pub Crawl of Lewes – Part 2.
