One of the best pubs close to the station in Brighton, and a pub that has kept its traditional feel.
There are two small bar areas as you enter the pub at the front. On the right hand side the bar opens up further into another seating area with yet another room right at the back. This last room is known as the Gallery Room and is often hung with work from local artists. The Gallery Room may not be open if the pub is not busy but I have seen it bursting on a Saturday lunchtime when the pub has a much more family orientated atmosphere. There’s also a small garden out the back for sunnier days.
The Lord Nelson is one of a number of Harvey’s pubs in Brighton but in my view has the best selection of Harvey’s beers. I don’t think the whole range is available but it must be most of it – including the monthly seasonal. The real ales are always on top form and the staff are quite happy to let you try out the different varities if you’re not familiar with the Harvey’s beers.
Food is available at lunchtimes only and in my experience is good. The pub has an arrangement with a local pizza restaurant for them to deliver in to pub customers in the evening.
There is a TV in the tiny seating area to the left for sporting fixtures.
A great pub, and one I visit when I’m in Brighton (see also An Evening Out in Brighton).
