Waiting Room at The Queen Hotel
Address: City Road Chester, Cheshire CH1 3AH
Telephone: 01244 305000
This large bar is buried within the grand Queen Hotel and opens out onto City Road, just opposite Chester’s rather grand station building.
The main seating area contains the actual bar and is light and airy. There are smaller, more secluded seating areas at each end.
The bar features two hand pumps and I’m excited to tell you that the beer choice avoids the traditional bland selection you often find within a hotel bar. Look out instead for a couple of locally brewed real ales – Weetwood Chesire Cat and Eastgate on my last visit. The beers taste well kept.
The bar staff are friendly and helpful – again not always something you get in hotel bars. It can get a bit disorganised when the bar gets busy – especially if a big party has just arrived.
Food is available and I opted for a rather tasty roast beef sandwich whilst waiting for my train.
There is a TVs occasionally showing news and sporting fixtures – one of the final events of the 2012 Paralympics during a previous visit, as you’ll see from the photo.
