Morrisons Beer Offers – July 2010 Update
Jul 26th, 2010 |
This month’s Morrison’s bottled beer research was done in the store at Wokingham in Berkshire for a change.
Amazingly after my comments from last month the Wyre Piddle “Piddle in the Hole” no longer seems to be on the shelves at any price. I’m sure it’ll return though.
Two beers are priced at £1.00 this month: Firstly the J W Lees “Brewer’s Dark” I mentioned last month – a delicious dark brown ale.
Joining it this month is Shepherd Neame “Spitfire” – a popular bitter from the Kentish brewery. I’m not a big fan of Shep’s beers but I know they are popular with many. Certainly many in Wokingham as there were none left on the shelf.

Morrisons Beer Offers – June 2010 Update
Jun 21st, 2010 |
Sad to report that the bottled beer price reductions seem to be in short supply in Morrisons this month. Just 3 to report:
1) I probably don’t need to report this one since it’ll be no surprise, but the Wyre Piddle “Piddle in the Hole” as still at £1.00 per bottle. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this one at a full price – approx £1.65 for most bottles this month. I’ve had this a few times but it’s never one of my favourites. That said, it’s not horrible, and there were none left on the shelf so someone must like it.
2) J. W. Lees “Brewer’s Dark” is also at £1.00 a bottle at the moment. I do quite like this dark mild. It’s not rich and sticky as some dark beers.
3) Marstons Burton Bitter at £1.19. I’ve had this in the past.
Also, if you like cider, There are bottles of Kingstone Press Premium Dry Cider for £1.00 too. My wife assures me it’s very tasty.
St Peter’s Bottles Changing?
Aug 21st, 2009 |

This picture was taken on a recent trip to the Jerusalem Tavern in Farringdon, London. Apologies for the poor quality – it was taken on my rubbish mobile.
For those who are not familiar with this pub, it is the only London outlet of the St Peter’s Brewery in Suffolk. It’s worth a visit if you like good beer and you’re in the area. The St Peter’s beers are very distinctive in their flavour tasting unlike beers from any other brewery. They usually have 4 or 5 on draught at any one time and most of the rest of the range are available in bottles.
I happened to notice these two bottles on the table on front of me (they weren’t mine) and was intrigued by the one on the left. If you’ve bought St Peter’s beers in the supermarket before you’ll be familiar with the elliptical shape of the base. It doesn’t come over so well in the picture but the left hand one has a circular base. I wonder if this is the new shape? It’s definitely got the St Peter’s badge moulded into the glass so they’re not brought in temporarily from somewhere else.
It would be a shame if the elliptical bottles disappeared.
