Morrisons Beer Offers – August 2010 Update

Aug 18th, 2010 | Author: The Beeralist

Thwaites Thoroughbred - £1.25 at Morrisons in August 2010Back to the Woking store for this month’s update. (I’m pleased to see that the Morrison’s offers are generally widespread since my last month’s Wokingham, Berkshire updates were mainly confirmed during a trip to the Morrisons in Plymstock, Devon).

Once again though, the good deals seem very limited with just the Lees Brewers Dark at £1 a bottle. This definitely seems to have supplanted the Wyre Piddle Piddle in the Hole that was £1 for ages but is now nowhere to be seen. I’m told by the assistant at Morrison’s that this discount on Brewers Dark is to continue for the forseeable future.

The only two other beers that were reduced were Thwaites Thoroughbred at £1.25 and Holts Humdinger at £1.29.

Morrisons Beer Offers – July 2010 Update

Jul 26th, 2010 | Author: The Beeralist

This month’s Morrison’s bottled beer research was done in the store at Wokingham in Berkshire for a change.

Amazingly after my comments from last month the Wyre Piddle “Piddle in the Hole” no longer seems to be on the shelves at any price. I’m sure it’ll return though.

Two beers are priced at £1.00 this month: Firstly the J W Lees “Brewer’s Dark” I mentioned last month – a delicious dark brown ale. Shepherd Neame SpitfireJoining it this month is Shepherd Neame “Spitfire” – a popular bitter from the Kentish brewery. I’m not a big fan of Shep’s beers but I know they are popular with many. Certainly many in Wokingham as there were none left on the shelf.

St Albans Pub Crawl

Jul 7th, 2010 | Author: The Beeralist

Last Saturday I enjoyed a great day with friends visiting some fine real ale pubs in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

St Albans is a very old city and apparently once had the highest density of pubs per head of population of any location in the UK. I’ve no idea whether that’s still the case but there are are certainly plenty of pubs still around and many of them seem to be thriving.

Our pub agenda was set using some local inside knowledge (friends who live in St Albans), the Good Beer Guide and of course the Beer in the Evening website.

Here’s a brief round up of the ones we got to. Fuller reviews of each of the pubs will be added to the reviews section soon.

Morrisons Beer Offers – June 2010 Update

Jun 21st, 2010 | Author: The Beeralist

Lees Brewers Dark at MorrisonsSad to report that the bottled beer price reductions seem to be in short supply in Morrisons this month. Just 3 to report:

1) I probably don’t need to report this one since it’ll be no surprise, but the Wyre Piddle “Piddle in the Hole” as still at £1.00 per bottle. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this one at a full price – approx £1.65 for most bottles this month. I’ve had this a few times but it’s never one of my favourites. That said, it’s not horrible, and there were none left on the shelf so someone must like it.

2) J. W. Lees “Brewer’s Dark” is also at £1.00 a bottle at the moment. I do quite like this dark mild. It’s not rich and sticky as some dark beers.

3) Marstons Burton Bitter at £1.19. I’ve had this in the past.

Also, if you like cider, There are bottles of Kingstone Press Premium Dry Cider for £1.00 too. My wife assures me it’s very tasty.

Whenever I’m driving over towards Farnham I always try and visit the Hog’s Back Brewery shop which is connected to the brewery in Tongham – it’s always worth a detour.
