Purity Ubu in London

Jan 28th, 2010 | Author: The Beeralist

Over the last couple of years I’ve been in Warwickshire on occasions, and have enjoyed a few pints of Ubu from the Purity Brewery. But now this gorgeous pint is regularly available in london too – at the Roebuck on Great Dover Street in Borough.

The Roebuck is about 400 yds from Borough tube station but is worth the walk, and makes a worthy addition to any real ale pub crawl in the London Bridge/Borough area.

It’s actually not far from the Royal Oak in Tabard Street and having walked from one to the other I’d say the pubs were very different. The Roebuck is much darker inside and there is actually music playing.

The Ubu itself is much hoppier than anything that Harvey’s brew but it’s not in the same league as Hophead from Dark Star.

Having enjoyed Purity Gold a few times in the past at the Hole in the Wall at Waterloo, I’ll be making a few more detours down Great Dover Street when in the Borough area to sample Ubu on draught.

Aside No 1:
I have been enjoying Ubu in bottles recently from Sainsbury’s, but the draught is much nicer.

Aside No 2:
I see from the latest Wetherspoons beer list that Ubu will be featuring at some point during the winter months, but of course it’s not certain when.
